Abstract Objective：To study the relationship among the state of post stroke depression， the degree of neurological impairment and the responsible lesion site.Method：160 patients with acute cerebral stroke were tested and the degrees of neurological impairment and were graded by introducing Hamilton Depression Rating Scale.35 patients were found with post stroke depressive state.Statistic analysis was done under conditions of different relative factors.Result：The total incidence of post stroke depression was 21.9%， which was positively correlated to the degree of neurological impairment significantly.The left hemisphere lesions were prone to depression than the right ones.The basal ganglia injuries were prone to depression.Conclusion：The severe neurological dysfunction can promote the occurrence of depression， and the occurrence of post stroke depression is associated with the responsible lesion site.
