Abstract Objective：To study the effects of artemisine on proliferation and apoptosis of human colon cancer HCT116 and HT29 cells.Method：Human colon cancer cells were treated with artemisine at different concentrations. MTT assay was used to test cell proliferation and FCM was used to detect cell apoptosis.Result：The inhibition rates had upwarded trend with increasing concentrations（ HCT116：19.42%，24.59%，44.84%，74.15%，92.87%；HT29：11.77%，17.63%，34.23%，48.51%，70.59%）， when treated with artemisine at difierent concentrations（ 7.5， 15，30， 60， 120 μg/mL） for 48 hours.Apoptosis rates gradually increased with increasing concentration（ HCT116：2.46%，51.36%，64.10%；HT29：1.14%，35.95%，43.45%）， when treated with artemisine at different concentrations（ 0， 60，120 μg/mL） for 24 hours.Conclusion：Artemisine inhibits proliferation and induces apoptosis of human colon cancer cells HCT116 and HT29.
