Abstract Objective: To investigate the relationship between TOAST subtype of cerebral infarction and the concentration of homocysteine( Hcy) and blood uric acid( UA). Method: Data was collected prospectively from 121 acute cerebral infarction patients in our hospital, and all the patients were classified into different subtypes according to TOAST criteria. In addition, 50 healthy people made physical examination at the same term were selected as the control group. The concentration of Hcy and UA of each group were tested respectively for comparison. Result:(1) Cerebral infarction patients group had higher concentration of Hcy and UA than the control group( P<0.01);( 2) Comparison of Hcy concentration: LAA subtype was higher than the other 4 subtype groups and the control group( P<0.01), SAA subtype was higher than SOE subtype( P<0.05), the left two groups had same Hcy concentration( P>0.05); CE, SAA and SUE subtype groups were all higher than the control group( P<0.05), and SOE subtype group was almost the same with the control group( P>0.05);( 3) Comparison of UA concentration: LAA subtype was higher than CE, SAA, SUE subtype groups and the control group( P<0.05), SAA subtype group was higher than the control group( P<0.01), and CE,SOE and SUE subtype groups were almost the same with the control group( P>0.05). Conclusion: The concentration of Hcy and UA is closely related to the morbidity of cerebral infarction, which also has more clinical significance to patients with cerebral infarction of LAA subtype.
