Abstract Objective:To investigate the activation of astrocytes in spinal cord of spinal nerve selective ligation(SNL) rats’ mirror-image pain model. Method:The experimental group( n=20) was SNL mirror-image pain model group, the control group( n=20) was SNL model group. Every group was took the L4-L5 spinal cord to make paraffin slices. Labeled the expression of glial fibrillary acidic protein( GFAP) by immunofluorescence method.Result:The positive
cells GFAP marked were increased in the number and the mean fluorescence intensity in the experimental groups’spinal dorsal horn of non-surgical side which had no statistical significance( P>0.05) compared with the surgical side, but had statistical significance( P<0.05) compared with the non-surgical side of the control group. Conclusion:In the neuropathic mirror-image pain, astrocytes were activated and involved the formation and maintenance of mirror pain in the mirror side of the spinal cord.
