Abstract Objective:To investigate the correlation of gene polymorphism Cytotoxic T lymphocyteassociated Antigen4( CTLA-4)at position 49 in exon 1 codon 17 with autoimmune thyroid disease( AITD).Method:The gene polymorphism CTLA-4 at position 49 in exon 1 codon 17 were conducted using polymerase chain reaction with sequence specific primers in the specimen of peripheral blood.82 patients with Graves disease( GD) and 51 patients with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis( HT) were recruited.80 healthy volunteers constituted the control group. Result:The gene frequencies of CTLA-4 at position 49 in exon 1 codon 17 GG genotype and G alleles were significantly higher in GD group than in control group(χ2=9.353,P=0.009;χ2=7.548,P=0.006).The gene frequencies of CTLA-4 at position 49 in exon 1 codon 17 GG genotype and G alleles were not significantly different in HT group and control group( χ2=0.062,P=0.969; χ2=0.046,P=0.830).Conclusion:The gene polymorphism CTLA-4 at position 49 in exon 1 codon 17 may be an independent risk factor for AITD.
