Uncertainty in Illness Among Preoperative Patients with Total Hip Arthroplasty

Abstract  Objective:To investigate the level and influencing factors of uncertainty in illness among preoperative patients with total hip arthroplasty(THA). Method:Totally 100 patients with THA were investigated by a self-designed demographic questionnaire,Mishel uncertainty in illness scale( MUIS), social support scale rating scale and Connor-Davidson resilience scale in the preoperative 1 day.Result:The total score of MUIS was( 102.01±14.35) and it is at the middle level,the average score of item in unpredictability dimension was the highest, and the score in complexity dimension was the lowest. Multiple stepwise regression showed the influencing factors of uncertainty in illness were educational level, family economic burden, social support and resilience.  Conclusion:Uncertainty in illness is at a middle level of preoperative patients with THA,which is influenced by individual factors, nurses should give nursing intervention to reduce their uncertainty in illness.
