Abstract Objective: To determine timely individualized nursing intervention by residual urine in hospitalized elderly patients, so as to reduce the incidence of urinary tract infection.Method: The 200 hospitalized elderly patients were randomly divided into observation group and control group, 100 cases in each group. The observation group of residual urine was measured according to the process of residual urine in bladder scan and the nursing intervention was determined by in time according to the measured results. The residual urine in the control group patients were estimated by residual urine palpation according to the experience of nurses. Indwelling catheter time, the incidence of urinary tract infection and the patient satisfaction were compared with two groups.Result: The observation group of residual urine accurately measure and individual intervention , catheter indwelling time and the urinary tract infection were significantly lower than the control group, and the satisfaction in the observation group was significantly higher than the control group, the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05). Conclusion:The accurately measure of residual urine not only conducive to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, but also shorten the indwelling catheter time, reduce the incidence of urinary tract infection, medical costs and improve patient satisfaction.
