Abstract Objective:To explore the value of multi-slice spiral CT angiography( MSCTA) in diabetic(DM)patients with carotid atherosclerosis stenosis.Method:MSCTA datas of patients suspected with ischemic brain lesions or carotid artery disease from January 2013 to August 2014 were selected, of which 20 cases of DM patients with carotid atherosclerosis stenosis,20 cases of no DM patients with carotid atherosclerosis stenosis were selected, the stenosis degree and plaque character were analyzed.Result:In 40 carotid artery branches of DM group , carotid artery was mild stenosis in 15 branches(37.5%), moderate stenosis in 17 branches( 42.5%), severe stenosis in 8 branches( 20.0%).In non-DM group, carotid artery was mild stenosis in 21 branches( 52.5%), moderate stenosis in 14 branches( 35.0%),severe stenosis branch in 5 branches( 12.5%), the difference between two groups was statistically significant( P<0.05).In DM group, 49 pieces of plaques were detected, and 28 pieces( 57.1% ) were unstable plaque ;in non-DM group 42 plaques were detected, and 17 pieces( 40.5% ) were unstable plaques; unstable plaque detection rate of DM group was significantly higher than the non- DM group( P<0.05).Plaque volume of two groups were not significantly different (P>0.05), but the volume was closely related to the vascular stenosis degree. Conclusion:MSCTA can effectively display the atherosclerotic plaques and stenosis degree of DM patients with carotid atherosclerosis stenosis, and these indicators are different from non-diabetic patients, so it may have a positive effect in predicting brain ischemic lesions of DM patients with carotid atherosclerosis stenosis, but it needs further studies.
