Abstract Objective: To investigate the effect of Maitland joint mobilization combined with traditional Chinese medicine fumigation on joint function and pain mediators of patients with rotator cuff injury. Method: A total of 68 inpatients with rotator cuff injury from September 2020 to September 2022 in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Central Hospital of Xinyu Iron and Steel Group Co., Ltd. were included and randomly divided into two groups. The control group (n=34) was treated with Maitland joint mobilization alone, and the research group (n=34) was treated with Maitland joint mobilization combined with traditional Chinese medicine fumigation. Both groups were treated for 6 weeks. The shoulder joint range of motion, shoulder joint function, and pain mediator [substance P (SP)] and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2)] levels before and after treatment in the two groups were compared, and the clinical effects of the two groups were compared. Result: The total effective rate of the research group (94.12%) was significantly higher than that of the control group (70.59%), the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). After treatment, the range of abduction, flexion, external rotation and internal rotation of the shoulder joint in both groups increased than those before treatment, and those in the research group were higher than those in the control group, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). After treatment, the pain, muscle strength, range of motion, daily life scores and total scores of the two groups were higher than those before treatment, and those in the research group were higher than those in the control group, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). After treatment, serum PGE2 and SP in both groups were lower than those before treatment, and those in the research group were lower than those in the control group, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion: Maitland joint mobilization combined with traditional Chinese medicine fumigation can significantly improve the clinical efficacy of rotator cuff injury, improve the shoulder joint function and range of motion, and effectively reduce the levels of pain mediators.
