Abstract Objective: To observe the clinical effect of acupuncture combined with low frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation in the treatment of motor aphasia after stroke. Method: Sixty patients with poststroke motor aphasia hospitalized in the Rehabilitation Department of Shanghai Changning Tianshan Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital from May 2020 to September 2022 were randomly divided into experimental group and control group, with 30 cases in each group. The control group received basic treatment, and the experimental group received acupuncture combined with low-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation on the basis of the control group. A simplified version of aphasia battery in Chinese (ABC), activities of daily living (modified Barthel index) and Hamilton depression scale (HAMD) before and after treatment were used to analyze the efficacy of the patients. Result: The clinical effect of experimental group was better than that of control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the scores of speech function (speech, comprehension, repetition, naming) in both groups were significantly higher than those before treatment (P<0.05), except for comprehension, the other three language functions in the experimental group were higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the modified Barthel index in both groups were significantly higher than those before treatment (P<0.05), and that of the experimental group was higher than that of the control group (P<0.05); in addition, the HAMD scores in both groups after treatment were significantly lower than those before treatment (P<0.05), and that of the experimental group was lower than that of the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion: Acupuncture combined with low-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation can improve the language function of patients with motor aphasia after stroke, and improve their ability to take care of themselves in daily life as well as their depression, the effect is better than that of simple basic treatment.
