Abstract Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is highly prevalent but poorly understood, and the disease is difficult to treat. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a common complication and a major cause of death in patients with CKD. CKD is also closely related to the development of CVD. There are still difficulties regarding the pathogenesis, associated risk factors and precise treatment of CKD combined with CVD now. This article provides a review of the interaction between the heart and kidney, the non-traditional risk factors of CKD combined with CVD and the aspects of prevention and treatment.
