Abstract Objective: To explore the efficacy of different doses of glucocorticoid combined with Propylthiouracil in the treatment of senile hyperthyroidism. Method: Sixty-six elderly patients with hyperthyroidism admitted to Gongan County People's Hospital from June 2021 to June 2022 were selected and divided into study group (33 cases) and control group (33 cases) according to random number table method. Both groups were treated with Propylthiouracil, while the control group was treated with high-dose glucocorticoid (Dexamethasone) and the study group was treated with low-dose glucocorticoid (Dexamethasone), the clinical efficacy of the two groups was compared. Result: The total effective rate and total cholesterol (TC) level in the study group were higher than those in the control group, after treatment, the incidence of adverse drug reactions, mean arterial pressure (MAP), heart rate (HR), fasting plasma glucose (FPG), adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) and thyroid hormone (T4) levels were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion: The clinical effect of low-dose glucocorticoid combined with Propylthiouracil in the treatment of elderly hyperthyroidism is significant, which can effectively improve the relative care function and the balance of thyroid function indicators and glycolipid metabolism, and reduce the risk of adverse drug reactions, with better safety.
