Abstract Objective：To explore the effect of endoscopic thyroidectomy via breast areola approach for the treatment of benign thyroid tumor.Method：A retrospective analysis was performed on the clinical data of 78 patients with benign thyroid tumor in our hospital from December 2007 to December 2013.They were divided into the control group（ 39 cases，open thyroidectomy） and the observation group（ 39 cases endoscopic thyroidectomy via breast areola approach）according to the treatment methods.The indexes of peri operation period and the recovery situation after treatment of the two groups were observed and compared.Result：The perioperative bleeding，the operative time，the volume of postoperative drainage and the postoperative hospital stays were significantly better than those of the control group，the differences were statistically significant（P<0.05）.Follow-up of 12 months， all the patients finished the follow up，there were no drop out patients.During the follow-up，patients in the observation group were satisfying with the recovery situation，patients in the control expressed that scars caused by surgery influenced the beauty.Conclusion：Endoscopic thyroidectomy via breast areola approach for treatment of benign thyroid tumors can obtain good clinical effect.
