Abstract Objective: To compare the total intravenous anesthesia and inhalation anesthesia on postoperativecognitive function in elderly patients. Method: 100 cases with stomach and intestine abdominal operation in elderlypatients were selected from August 2012 to August 2014 in our hospital, the patients were randomly divided into
intravenous group and inhalation group ,50 cases in each group. Intravenous anesthesia was used in the intravenousgroup and inhalation anesthesia was used in the inhalation group. Two groups of patients with postoperative recoverytime, extubation time and MMSE score were compared. Result: Compared withinhalation group, the recovery time andextubation time were shorter, the differences were statistically significant( P<0.05). Compared with the preoperative, postoperative intravenous group by 60 min with lower MMSE scores, inhalation group patients after 60,180,360 minMMSE score was lower , the differences were statistically significant( P<0.05); compared with inhalation group, byintravenous group patients after 60,180,and 360 min MMSE scores were higher, the differences were statisticallysignificant( P<0.05).Conclusion:The intravenous anesthesia group can reduce the incidence of POCD in elderly
patients, cognitive function, better protection of the patients, improve the quality of life of patients, improve the prognosisof patients, and can be widelyused in clinical.
