Abstract Objective: To investigate the application value of procalcitonin(PCT) and C-reactive protein(CRP) in the early diagnosis and treatment about the disease of infection in children. Method: 1268 children with infection in the pediatrics of our hospital from June 2012 to August 2014 were selected as the research objects.They were divided into two groups according to the results of pathogen and serum.The levels of PCT,CRP,WBC and ESR in the two groups were compared before and after treatment. Result: Before treatment the levels and positive rates of PCT and CRP in the bacterial infection group were significantly higher than those in the non-bacterial infection group,in the bacterial infection group,the positive rate of PCT was higher than the positive rate of CRP,the differences above were all statistically significant(P<0.05).The differences in the levels and positive rates of WBC and ESR in the two groups before treatment were not statistically significant(P>0.05). Conclusion: The levels of PCT and CRP increase significantly in children with infection, but PCT was superior to CRP in the early diagnosis of bacterial infection. The serum procalcitonin can accurately reflect the degree of infectious diseases, it has a good clinical application value in the diagnosis and prognosis of infectious diseases.
