Abstract Objective:To investigate the effects of inhaled Tiotropium on pulmonary function results in patientswith stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD).Method:68 COPD patients were randomly divided intoexperimental group(tiotropium group) and control group. The pulmonary functio(FEVlFEVl/FVC,FEVl%) andinfiammatory cytokines(IL-8,TNF-α) were measured both before and 6 weeks after inhalation.Result:(1)Therewere no significant differences in the values of forced expiratory volume in FEV1,FEV1/FVC,FEV1%,IL-8 andTNF-α before treatment between two groups( P>0.05).(2)These were significantly improved in the values of forcedexpiratory volume in FEV1, FEV1/FVC,FEV1%(P<0.01 or P<0.05),the levels of IL-8,TNF-αin induced sputumcan be significantly decreased between two groups(P<0.01),and after treatment the experimental group were better thanthe control grou(P<0.01).Conclusion:Inhaled tiotropium can significantly improve the pulmonary functions, reducethe levels of inflammatory cytokines and airway inflammation in the treatment of COPD patients at stable stage.
