Abstract Objective: To investigate and analyze the residents and common pathogenic factors of diabetes in Anningqu Town, Urumqi city, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and lay a foundation for diabetes prevention and intervention in agricultural and pastoral areas. Method: From March to October 2015, a total of 3 519 people living in Anningqu Town of Urumqi for health checkup were selected as the subjects. According to the National Basic Public Health Standards (2011 edition), the unified personal information table was used for the cross-sectional survey. The epidemiological study method and multi-stage stratified random sampling method were used to investigate the prevalence of diabetes in local residents. Regression analysis was used to explore the risk factors of diabetes. Result: The number of diabetes patients among the 3 519 residents was 519 cases, accounting for 14.75% of the total population. Statistical analysis of the basic information of all patients showed that there were no significant differences in the prevalence of diabetes among different genders, nationalities, BMI, central obesity, physical exercise adherence, smoking, meat and vegetable intake, and high total cholesterol and low density lipoprotein (P>0.05). The incidences of diabetes in patients with age 51-59 years and 60-69 years, salt addiction, sugar addiction, drinking and high triglyceride were higher, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). According to the results of multivariate logistic regression analysis, the risk factors of diabetes patients were age, drinking, salt addiction, sugar addiction and high triglycerides (P<0.05). Conclusion: The prevalence of diabetes mellitus in the residents of Anningqu Town of Urumqi is higher than the national level. Age, salt, sugar, alcohol and high triglyceride are the risk factors for diabetes mellitus in Anningqu Town. Therefore, the township health centers of the region should standardize the management of the above pathogenic factors, so as to effectively prevent and control the prevalence of diabetes mellitus in the town residents.
