Abstract Objective: To explore and analyze the evaluation of the effect of home-based self-management under the health belief model after modified Bacon surgery in patients with middle and low rectal cancer. Method: A total of 120 patients with rectal cancer who received modified Bacon surgery and were treated in Jiangxi Cancer Hospital from May 2018 to February 2021 were selected, they were divided into the control group and the observation group by random number table method, with 60 cases in each group, excluding those who dropped out or discontinued the study, transferred to a hospital, or had missing clinical data, a total of 111 patients were included in the final study there were 53 cases in the control group and 58 cases in the observation group. The control group was given routine management, and the observation group was given home-based self-management under the health belief model. Self-care ability scores, health belief scores, complication rate and satisfaction were compared between the two groups. Result: After management, the scores of self-concept, self-care skills, health knowledge level and sense of self-care in the observation group were higher than those in the control group, and the scores of health motivation, benefits, self-efficacy, susceptibility, severity and disorder were higher than those in the control group, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). The complication rate in the observation group was lower than that in the control group, and the satisfaction rate was higher, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion: The application of home-based self-management under the health belief model to the modified Bacon surgery for the treatment of cancer patients significantly improves the patients' self-care ability, improves their health behaviors and health beliefs, and reduces the incidence of complications, overall satisfaction is high.
