Abstract Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) has been applied to epilepsy, and it is a powerful tool to explore the hemodynamics and oxygenation of epileptic activities in adults and children. It is not only of great significance to locate seizure focus and guide the functional area positioning before surgery, but also can objectively evaluate the cognitive disorder caused due to epilepsy. Intraoperative fNIRS can detect cortical-cortical activity, hope for become a reliable tool for intraoperative assessment. This paper summarizes the application of fNIRS in the above aspects to deepen people's understanding of epilepsy and expand the clinical research of epilepsy.
