Abstract Neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy refers to the brain injury of fetus or newborn caused by hypoxia, reduction or suspension of cerebral blood flow in perinatal period, including a series of clinical manifestations caused by abnormalities of central nervous system, it is the main cause of neonatal death or disability, its pathogenesis is not clear. As a neurotransmitter, nitric oxide plays an important role in the information transmission of neurons and participates in the pathological mechanism of brain tissue injury. This paper aims to summarize the related role of nitric oxide in the pathogenesis of hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, so as to provide basis for the development of thinking and treatment of hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy.
