Abstract Objective: To investigate the standard maintenance practice of implantable venous access port( IVAP)in order to keep the catheter free of obstruction or infection to ensure successful treatment. Method: An evidence-basednursing team was established to evaluate the authenticity,reliability,and practicability of the evidence regarding themanagement of non-injured needle injection, flushing and sealing, catheter-related infection during maintenance ofIVAP in 129 patients in the department of Breast Surgery from October 2011 to April 2012. Result: The success rateof one-time non-injured needle injection was 99.4%.No obstruction or infection happened during catheter retention.Conclusion:Evidence-based is the basis of clinical care, applying evidence-based nursing to IVAP maintenance for
standard operation procedure and to guide clinical were great significance.
