Abstract Objective: To explore the application value of contrast-enhanced ultrasound in the evaluation of the stability of carotid atherosclerotic plaques. Method: 52 patients with carotid atherosclerotic plaques were divided into symptomatic group( 35 cases) and asymptomatic group( 17 cases) according to clinical symptoms, and divided into 20 cases of soft plaque, 18 cases of mixed plaque and 14 cases of hard plaque according to the ultrasonic echo. The plaque composition, contrast enhanced intensity( EI), plaque and lumen enhanced intensity ratio( ratio) and contrast enhancement degree classification of each groups were compared. Result: The ratio of soft plaque in symptomatic group was significantly higher than that of the asymptomatic group, and after contrast EI and ratio values was significantly higher than that of the asymptomatic group( P<0.05). The proportion of soft plaque imaging Ⅲ, EI and ratio values was higher than that of the mixed plaque and hard plaque, and the proportion of mixed plaque contrast Ⅲ, EI and ratio values was higher than that of hard plaque( P<0.05). Conclusion: Contrast enhanced ultrasound can enhance quantitative assessment of the stability of plaque through observing the neovascularization in carotid atherosclerotic plaques.
