Investigation on Knowledge About Prevention and Control of Cervical Cancer and Attitude to Cervical Cancer Screening Among 1155 Women in Jiangsu Province

Abstract  Objective:To understand the situation of cervical cancer prevention knowledge and the demand of screening in Jiangsu province to make the health education work more targeted in the future.Method:One to one survey of cervical cancer prevention knowledge and screening requirements for the voluntary participation of women were conducted in 11 project sites( 3 cities and 8 counties) from September 2012 to February 2013.Result:The 1155 full effectivequestionnaires were obtained by investigating a total of 1260 women, 303 cases of which were from area 1, not the free cervical cancer screening project sites , 852 cases of which from area 2, the project site. The proportion of the women in area 2, who get cervical cancer prevention knowledge by "books / journals" and "publicity materials / poster book", is higher than that of women in area 1 and the difference was statistically significant( P<0.05).The awareness rate of cervical cancer prevention knowledge in area 2 was higher than area 1 except cervical lesions and the difference was statistically significant( P<0.05). 92.21% of respondents( 1065) were willing to accept the health examination of cervical cancer,45.63%( 527) wanted the government to pay the full cost of inspection, and 74.11%( 856) were willing to take screening every year. Women in area 2 are preferred to choose the family planning services for screening, while the women in area 1 choose the medical institutions.Conclusion:The knowledge of cervical cancer prevention to the local women, but it is necessary to strengthen the related health education by changing the traditional way of health education, strengthening the local family planning services construction to ensure the sustainability of screening.
