Abstract Objective： To observe the effect of hydrocolloid dressing with wet heat compression in preventing mechanical phlebitis of peripherally inserted central catheter（ PICC）. Method： 135 patients were randomly divided into three groups， experimental group 1（ 45 cases）， experimental group 2（ 45 cases）， and control group（ 45 cases）. The experimental group 1 used hydrocolloid dressing after PICC for 7 days， received wet heat compression after 24 hours， had
been covered for 7 days（ 30 min/times， 2 times/d）. The experimental group 2 received wet heat compression after 24 hours， had been covered for 7 days（ 30 min/times， 2 times/d）. The control group received routine nursing. Result： The incidence of phlebitis in the experimental group 1 was significantly lower than that in the experimental group 2 and control group， with significant difference（ P<0.05）. Conclusion： Hydrocolloid dressing with wet heat compression can prevent mechanical phlebitis of peripherally inserted central catheter（ PICC）.
