Abstract Objective：To investigate the status of myopia of primary and middle school students in Rushan city to provide basis to make further intervention measures.Method： 1932 students in two primary and middle schools were selected by stratified cluster random sampling ，it included 1036 pupils and 896 junior school students，all of them were conducted visual inspection and questionnaire survey.Result： There were 1009 students suffer short-sightedness.The detection rate was 52.22%.Patients with mild myopia were 658，which was 65.21%；patients with mild to moderate myopia were 220，which was 21.86%；patients with high degrees of myopia were 131，which was 12.93%.The total incidence rate of pupils suffered short-sightedness was 41%；incidence rate in one to the fifth grade in primary school was respectively 24%，32%，42%，49%，60%. The total incidence rate of junior school students sufferd short-sightedness was 64%；incidence rate in six to nine grade was respectively 62%，65%，65%，69%.Conclusion：The prevalence rate of myopia is high among the investigated primary and middle school students，and increased obviously with the increase of the grate，targeted intervention measures should be taken to effective prevente the myopia.
