Abstract Objective:To observe the effect of Cinnamomum cassia( CE) on LTP in hippocampal CA1 area of diabetic rats induced by streptozotocin(STZ).Method:27 SD rats were randomly divided into control group, diabetes mellitus(DM)group and CE group. The model of diabetic rats were induced by a single injection of streptozotocin at a dose of 65 mg/kg.Rats in the CE group were given 5 g/kg CE by intragastric gavage every day.Electrophysiological method was used to observe the LTP in hippocampal CA1 area,Levels of N- methyl-D-aspartate receptor subtype 2B( NR2B) in the hippocampal tissue were analyzed by western blot.Result:In the electrophysiological experiments, population spike(PS) amplitude significantly decreased in the DM group versus control.CE treatment could restore PS amplitude and significantly increase the expression levels of NR2B in the hippocampus of diabetic rats. Conclusion:CE can improve LTP in the hippocampal CA1 of diabetic rats and this effect could be attributed to the up-regulation expression of NR2B.
