Influence of Motivational Interviewing on Self-efficacy and Self-management in Patients with Diabetes |

Abstract Objective:To explore the influence of motivational interviewing on self-efficacy and self-management in patients with diabetes.Method:100 cases with diabetes in our hospital from November 2012 to February 2013 were selected and randomly divided into observation group and control group with 50 cases in each group.All patients were treated with basic drug therapy,in the control group patients were treated with routine care intervention and health education while the observation group plus comprehensive nursing interventions which included health education based on motivational interviews.Self-management and self-efficacy scores,glycemic control and quality of life after 6 months were compared.Result:Self-efficacy and selfmanagement of the two groups were significantly improved,with an average score of the observation group higher than that of the control group( P<0.05).Fasting plasma glucose and glycated hemoglobin in the observation group and the control group were significantly decreased,the mean fasting plasma glucose of the observation group was lower( P<0.05),the difference in glycated hemoglobin between the two groups was not statistically significant( P>0.05).The quality of life of the observation group was significantly improved,and the control group only advanced in treatment outcome,The scores of the observation group were higher than that of the control group in all dimensions(P<0.05). Conclusion:Motivational interviewing which guides health education has significant improvement for diabetes’ self-efficacy and self-management,it helps control blood sugar and improve the patients’ quality of life.
